Creative Writing Challenge#3: “Wave”

For this challenge, I decided to go for a Haïku. This form of Japanese poem has a lot of rules but from what I gathered some of the rules are :

  • having verses in a 5,7,5 pattern
  • having a seasonal element
  • a cutting word “Kireji” in the second verse (it has no equivalent in English son punctuation is acceptable)

One of the most famous Haïkus :

古池や蛙飛び込む水の音
ふるいけやかわずとびこむみずのおと
furu ike ya

kawazu tobikomu

mizu no oto

Translated:

old pond
frog leaps in
water’s sound

My attempt with the word “Wave” included:

Seagulls fly over

waves of troubled water,

snow falls on Esja
